Hello world!

Hi everyone!

I'm the new PR intern for the Athens Convention and Visitors Bureau so I thought I'd introduce myself a bit so you know who's writing to you! My name is Kenimer Highsmith and I'm a senior Agriculture Communication major at UGA. My major has shown me a new world I'd never seen before and its encouraged me to continue to step out and explore new things, which is what I hope to do my last semester of college. So far, everything I know about Athens is great but there is so much that I don't know about and have never experienced. For the next couple of months I'll be going to some new places around town and enjoying all the culture and excitement this college town has to offer. I'm open to all suggestions along the way. If there's a cool restaurant, band, convention, or exhibit let me know and I'll try to check it out! Thanks for reading and loving Athens too!

Athens This Weekend Jan. 28-30

The weather is going to be beautiful and there is so much going on so there are no excuses not to get out and explore Athens!

1. Art Expands: The Georgia Museum of Art reopens

1. A week-long celebration of the Georgia Museum of Art's grand reopening begins with a gala event Saturday and a friends' preview day on Sunday with even more to do throughout the week! The additional almost 30,000 square feet include new galleries and an outdoor sculpture garden along with study space and an expanded reception area. This beautiful addition to Athens art is a must see!

2. The third annual Green Life Expo takes place Saturday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the Classic Center with events for everyone including activities, exhibits, and seminars. Stop by to learn how to live a greener life and keep Athens beautiful! Admission and parking are free.

3. For all of you busy with wedding planning, this Sunday is a must with TWO bridal shows: the Athens Wedding Professionals Ultimate Bridal Show at the Georgia Center from 12 - 5 p.m. and the Georgia Bridal Show at the Classic Center from 12:30 - 4 p.m. Don't miss this chance to see it all and find what's perfect for you and your Athens wedding!

Widespread Panic back in Athens, Feb. 10-11

Hard to believe, but it's been 25 years since Widespread Panic first came on the Athens music scene. To celebrate, the band will be back in their hometown for two nights of very special shows, February 10 & 11 at 7:30 p.m. Performing at The Classic Center has special ties for Widespread Panic, as the Center sits on the site of the former Mad Hatter Ballroom, where the band played its first official show February 6, 1986.

Tickets for these shows go on sale Saturday, January 8, at 9 a.m. They'll go fast, so be ready! Tickets will be available at The Classic Center box office, 300 N. Thomas St., downtown Athens, at www.ClassicCenter.com, or by calling 706-357-4444.
